Mini Review #2

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog! Today I will be reviewing three recent reads that I want to share my thoughts on. However, I don't have enough to make a full review for each book so I'll just be doing mini reviews for each.

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater
Sinner is the last book in Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls series. Although Sam and Grace had a complete story arc in the first three books, the series continues with Isabel and Cole. I loved Isabel and Cole in the first three books, and was disheartened when they didn't get their happily ever after in Forever. Maybe it is because I have grown as a reader, but I didn't really enjoy this one. Both Isabel and Cole frustrated me and instead of rooting for them, I just wanted the book to wrap up. If you're a fan of the first three books but haven't read them in a while, I would say to just skip this one and be content with the ending of Forever.

Half Blood by Jennifer L. Armenntrout
Half Blood is the opening novel in Armentrout's Covenant series. If you've read the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, you might see some similarities between the two. Both feature a protagonist that is half human with the other half being a superior species. Our protagonist also want to be in a relationship but isn't because they would be shunned. Though I had a lot of fun reading this book, I couldn't get over the striking similarities between the two. Alex also reminds me of Rose due to how similar they are physically and in personality. However, if you are looking for a fast paced read that doesn't require too much thought, I would recommend this. What it lacked in originality was made up for in its humor. I'm sure that the series improves as it progresses, so I will be continuing on with this series.

Did I Mention I Love You? by Estelle Maskame
Did I Mention I Love You? (or DIMILY for short) is the first book in a contemporary trilogy by teenage author Estelle Maskame. This series is a wattpad sensation and has its roots there. The novel follows Eden as she spends the summer with her estranged father in California. Along the way, Eden slowly falls for her infuriating stepbrother Alex. This novel was pure fun and I started to really love the characters. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fast paced summer/spring read! I'm reading the sequel right now and cannot get enough of it.

  1. Half Blood takes a completely different direction once you get further into the books! It becomes nothing like Vampire Academy. I've read some really great things about Did I Mention I Love You and I really want to read it! Hopefully I'll get to it in the summer!

  2. I still haven't read Sinner although I did read the free teaser when it came out. I'm sad to see you didn't like it all that much. I was really rooting for Isabel and Cole in the original series as well. I think I'll still read it just because!

I felt the same about Half-Blood although, because I read it before the Vampire Academy series, I thought that Rose was a lot like Alex! It definitely isn't all that original of a plot (although slightly more original of a world!) but it does have great wit!

    Wonderful reviews!

    1. If you liked the trilogy, I would say go for it! I was kind of in a "meh" mood as I read it too, so my reading experience didn't help with my rating of it either.

That's what it making me continue with the series. No matter how alike Alex and Rose are, they're humor makes me keep reading! :D

      Thanks so much Laura!

  3. Oooh, I haven't read any of these books, but I have Half-Blood somewhere on my tbr! I haven't read Vampire Academy and I would pretty much not get the similarities, but I'm glad it has some humor, which means it will still be an enjoyable read somehow. Anyway, these little reviews are pretty cool and a lot of fun, thanks for sharing them!

Hope you get to LOVE your next reads! x

  5. I've read both Shiver & Linger but have been putting off reading Forever for the longest time. Honestly Cole is my favorite character in the books so I was actually looking forward to reading Sinner but I'm not so sure.

I'm super excited to read Did I Mention I Love You? :D I've heard so many amazing things about it and it sounds so good!

    1. I think the reason I didn't like Sinner was that I was in a reading slump and I was pushing myself to read it. I would say that you should read it for the finality of it all. I don't regret reading it or anything! :)

I hope you read it soon! The first two books are so much fun and I am dying for the third!

      Thanks for visiting Cari! :D
