Series I Finished in 2016!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be talking about the series I finished this year! I started plenty of series this year, but I'm happy to say that I finished quite a few as well.

None of these are in particular order. Any of the links are links to my latest review of the series. :)

The Selection by Kiera Cass
I'm just going to say it: I don't really like this series. They are easy to read, but I don't feel connected to the characters. I can only tell you four of the characters names in the Selection, and that isn't saying much because there is a huge cast! My ship did sail, so I guess I'm happy with that. This series was fun to read, but in the end it was forgettable.

Defy Trilogy by Sara B. Larson
I read this whole trilogy in 2016. I picked up the first book, Defy, at my local library and didn't enjoy it that much. I did continue on with the trilogy, and it improved as it continued. I really enjoyed the last book in the series. I can't say that this series is a favorite of mine, but they were great reads.

Starbound Trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
I absolutely adore this trilogy. The last book was spectacular; I love how all the characters became interconnected and worked together. I'm very much looking forward to Kafuman and Spooner's next foray into science fiction this year. The series is one of my favorite YA trilogies out there.

The Book of Ivy Duology by Amy Engel
This duology is one of my all time favorites. I love how familiar I became with the characters and how much I cared for them. The ending to the duology was fantastic in my opinion. I know some people thought the second book was not as good as the first, but I completely disagree. At least for me, it was a perfect ending. I'm very much looking forward to what Engel has in store next!

White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter
I finished Showalter's four book YA series this year and absolutely adored it. At first the series was only going to be a trilogy, and I was completely fine with how it ended. There were a couple of loose ends, but I'm fine when a series isn't all wrapped up with a bow on top. However, I still really loved the fourth and final book. It was so fun to learn more about the secondary characters!

The Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins
So this isn't technically a trilogy now that the series has four books. Much like White Rabbit Chronicles, this was originally going to be a trilogy but then a fourth book was added. The last two books were my favorite of the series, and they generally improved as the series progressed. If you didn't like the first book, Sweet Evil (I sure didn't!), try and give the series another go. It's worth it.

Alienated Trilogy by Melissa Landers
This is the most recent series I finished! The trilogy was originally only a duology, but I appreciate that we got a third and final book! Much like White Rabbit Chronicles, I was fine with how the series ended before. I still really enjoyed the third and final book, and a review will be up soon!

Crash Trilogy by Nicole Williams
Like the Defy trilogy, I started and finished this series this year. The NA romance trilogy was easy to read, but I did have my faults with it. It seemed as if the same problem just kept happening again and again, and I wanted a change of pace. Nevertheless, the Crash trilogy was fun and full of non-stop drama!

Those are the series I finished this year. It's not as many as I expected. Hopefully I will finish more this upcoming year. I have several series where I only need to read two books or less to finish. Here's hoping I get around to all of them in 2017!

What series did you finish reading this year? Have you read any of the series mentioned above?

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

  1. I LOVED Larson's trilogy! Such underrated fantasy. I really need to read United. Landers' books are so great. Have you read Starflight? I can't wait to read Starfall. Need!

I've finished some series this year too! I binge-read the Shatter Me series. I read The Midnight Star (loved!), The Beauty of Darkness (massive disappointment), The Fate of the Tearling (intriguing). There were others, I'm sure! I'm fairly happy with these conclusion novels. Here's hoping you and I will finish more series in 2017. :D

    Happy holidays, Genni! =)

    1. I completely agree with you; it's so underrated! I haven't read Starflight (yet!) but I really want to! It sounds like so much fun.

I adored the Shatter Me series when I first read it! I was just getting into YA when I read it, so I'm curious to see what my thoughts would be like now. I remember your review for Beauty of Darkness! I still started the series because I wanted to see what got you so riled up. :D

Thanks Alyssa! I hope you had a good break!

  2. Yes, I loved the last Starbound book - I think it's my favorite of the series! I have yet to read United, but I am looking forward to wrapping that series up as well. :)

    1. Here's hoping you'll read it in 2017. It really tied up all the loose ends that were hanging after Invaded. Thanks for stopping by Lauren. :D

  3. I haven't any of these series except for The Selection (and I've only read book1. lol). I'm only thinking of reading until book3 though.. I'm also hoping to read the Starbound trilogy some time :)

Looking back, I don't think I finished a lot of series (as usual. I suck. ugh).

    Anyway, Happy Holidays, Genni! :D

    1. Yeah, I would recommend just reading the initial trilogy in the selection series. They are fun to read, but really predictable. The two about Eadlyn felt really flat for me.

I started WAY more series than I finished, so I'm in the same boat as you. I hope that I'll finish more this upcoming year, but I'm not going to set a goal or anything like that.

Thanks Czai! I hope you had a wonderful break. :D

  4. Oh wow, you finished quite a few good series! I'm jealous. I really want to read the Book of Ivy but I still haven't gotten around to it yet, sadly. Hopefully in the new year...but we'll have to see!

    1. Haha thanks Erika! The Book of Ivy was such a breath of fresh air from ll the stereotypical YA dystopias out there. Thanks for visiting Erika! :)

  5. I am really bad at finishing series I start! I don't know why. I think it's partially because I don't want a good series to end.

    1. Trust me, I am too! I start a ton of series, but I don't really finish it unless the series really stuck with me. There are countless of series I have started where I read the first book and didn't care enough to continue on. I get you on not wanting to finish a good series. I held back on reading the last book in the Starbound trilogy because I had such high expectations.
