The Friday 56 with Book Beginnings! No. 3

Hey guys! Welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni and today I'll be participating in the weekly meme Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice and Book Beginnings hosted by Rose City Reader! I haven't participated in a while, so I think it'll be fun.

The rules are simple for both. For the Friday 56, we turn to page 56 or 56 % in our e-reader and highlight a passage of any book! Book Beginnings is where you feature the first sentence (or so) of a book and give your thoughts and impressions.

Friday 56

So this snippet is from a book I just started reading and is on page 56 on my iphone, so it is actually in the very beginning of the book. The novel, Together With You by Victoria Bylin, was one that I rented from my online library on a whim late last night while I was trying to fall asleep. The book does have a darker tone to it than expected, but does have a truly mesmerizing story. FASD is a disorder than can be cured by being careful, vigilant, and responsible. It is a shame that this still continues today. If you want to learn more about the disorder, feel free to visit the official website here. Together With You features a single dad struggling to raise his kids, including one a toddler with FASD symptoms, and a mid twenties women who left a center for troubled kids after a scarring experience. This will be my first book into adult romance, so hopefully I will like it!

Book Beginnings

For book beginnings, I decided to feature the first sentence on a book I just finished Thursday morning. That book is none other than Forbidden by Kimberley Griffiths Little. This novel doesn't have nearly as much attention as it deserves. This historical novel takes place in 1759 BC and follows Jayden, our main character, who is a nomad part of a desert tribe.

As you can tell, these two books are very different but both appeal to me. I'm excited to see Carly's growth in Together With You while the first two sentences of Forbidden drew me right back in. I don't have any first impressions of Forbidden considering I did finish reading the book, but the opening scene sucked me right in when I started reading it. The life of a desert nomad in 1759 is harsh and cruel, and yet beautiful and rewarding at the same time. I really liked Jayden's story and though there were some little problems with the book, they were just that: little. As for Together With You, I hope I like it! I don't really know where the story is going, but I guess that is to be expected when I just started the book!

Have you read either of the two mentioned above? If you did either Book Beginnings or The Friday 56, make sure to leave your link down below! I'd love to check them out! :D

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!
