Trying a Chapter Book Tag!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be doing the Trying a Chapter Book Tag. I've seen this tag for years on youtube, and have seen it around the blogosphere as well. I haven't been tagged by anyone, but decided to give this a go! These books will esssentialy be my June TBR, since I don't have naything concrete in mind for the next month. I think this book tag will be perfect. Not only am I opening up some books that have been on my bookshelf for way too long, but I'll hopefully find my next read!

Today I'll be trying a chapter from:
1) Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally
2) Starflight by Melissa Landers
3) Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
4) Without Merit by Colleen Hoover
5) The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

My Thoughts!
1) Coming Up for Air

I wanted to continue reading after I finished this chapter! I really want to read a cute contemprary - my most recent reads and current reads are all mostly fantasy or sci-fi. From what I've read from Miranda Kenneally, her books are always super fun with that angst that I love in my romances. I actuallty flipped through some of the book and read some other scnes, and I think I would really like this one!

2) Starflight

This wasn't the strongest first chapters, but enough to make me want to keep reading. I liked Melissa Landers' Alienated trilogy, and got the same vibe from this book. I never loved Alienated, but it was a fun and quick read, and I think Starlight will be the same. This will probably be my first read out of these five.

3) Second Chance Summer
This was a pretty good chapter, but didn't introduce anything new. I already knew the plot of Second Chance Summer before picking this up, so while the set-up was entertaining, it wasn't anything special for me. However, I tend to love Morgan Matson's books, and this seems to be the masses' favorite. I also have an ARC of Save the Date, her upcoming release, so we'll see which one gets read first.

4) Without Merit

This was probably my favorite chapter. I have a weird relationship with Colleen Hoover now. I like her writing, but I do think that some of her books can be problematic. There's this great video by Whitney (one of my favorite booktubers) who discusses problematic relationships, including the one in November 9, as she gets ready. Check her video out here if you want to know all the details. I'm a bit hesitant about reading Without Merit due to my personal problems with November 9 and Ugly Love, but I still want to give Hoover a chance. She's made some mistakes in her portrayals of relationships (in my opinion), but she has also written some of my favorite books, so I'm going to read this one.

5) The Iron King

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with the first chapter of this one, but I didn't think it was horrible. I've read Talon by Julie Kagawa, but I thought the book was just okay. I want to give Kagawa another chance, and I've owned this book for a while. I'm interested to see where it goes, but so far, the book just seems like a standard fantasy. I do think if I read this and continue on with the series, the writing will improve throughout the series, as it has with Cassandra Clare.

So those are my thoughts on each book! I actually read a couple more chapters of Without Merit, Second Chance Summer, and Starlight, so those are the first contenders. Now that the month is almost over, I'm looking forward to reading those. :) Other than these books, I also want to read some books from my previous post, "Goodreads Chooses my May TBR!" Also, don't forget to vote for what wattpad books I should read next here
