From the author of Come Back to Me comes a striking new novel about a young woman— desperately trying to protect her family from their violent father—who finds safety, and a passionate romance, with an ex-Marine.

Ever since Zoey was a kid she’s been caring for her mom and her little sister, defending them from her violent father. She’s been the strong one, the responsible one as she sacrificed her wants and dreams to keep her family together.

Now the life they’ve built for themselves in California is about to be upended. Her father, just released from prison, has discovered where they’re hiding and has come looking for them.

Enter Tristan. A former Marine and now member of the Coast Guard, Tristian promises his best friend, and Zoey’s Marine brother, that he will take care of Zoey and her family. Protect them, watch over them, and be the rock they need in their lives.

And as Tristan starts to help Zoey deal with the emotional fall out of her childhood, their relationship turns from protector to something more. The two grow closer as a romance blooms into a heart-pounding and powerful relationship that Zoey hopes will be strong enough to fight off the damage her father has done to her and her family.

But not everyone can be kept safe forever, and when Zoey’s father does show up, a confrontation ensues that will change Zoey’s world forever.

If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm attending university right now. As a third-year college student, the one thing I'm in dire need of is free time. During the midst of midterms a couple months ago, I made a dire mistake: I picked up the ARC for Watch Over Me by Mila Gray. Now, don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the book. So much so that I read it in one day, shirking all the studying I should have been doing. Watch Over Me swept me away in its world of action and romance, and I was glued to the last page.

Mila Gray has been a long time go-to author for me. I absolutely loved Come Back to Me when I read it in 2016, and its sequels - especially Run Away With Me, my favorite in this companion novel series, did not disappoint. So when I saw Watch Over Me available to download, I bit at the chance. Like the rest of the series, Watch Over Me was a wonderful romance with a good chunk of suspense, leaving my heart aching and my nails bitten (metaphorically).

Zoey, our main character, has had a rough go of it; she's positioned herself as the defender of her family against her abusive dad. Shortly after Zoey, her mom, and her little sister move to California, Zoey's father is released from prison, and is intent on revenge. A recent move and the threat of her father are enough to upend Zoey's life, but its rocked to the core when Tristan arrives. Tristan is a reminder of everything Zoey can't do, like put herself first. As the threat of her father looms, Zoey starts falling in love with Tristan, culminating in a thrilling conclusion.

If you're looking for a suspenseful romance, look no further! Though I wished we got more peaceful scenes to even out the pace of the novel, Watch Over Me is another solid romance novel by Gray. If you haven't checked out this series, do so now. You can start anywhere, and I would recommend them all.

With that, I give Watch Over Me 4 out of 5 Flowers!

If you're still reading, thanks for making it to the end! I hope you and your loved ones have a great holiday, and that you manage to sneak in some wonderful books by years end.

Happy Reading!
