TTT: Favorite Hate to Love Romances

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. This week's topic is "All About Romance Tropes/Types," so I chose my ten favorite hate to love romances.

First off, Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you have a significant other or not, I hope your day was fabulous and you had some quality time with the people you love. :D

These aren't in any particular order and don't encapsulate all my favorite hate to love romances!

I love hate to love romances because of the interactions between the two characters! It is always so fun to see them banter and argue and slowly but surely fall for each other. Normally hate-to-love romances add a bit of fun into a dire situation.

1) Aelyx and Cara from Alienated by Melissa Landers
I don't know if I would necessarily call this hate at first sight, but Aelyx and Cara definitely did not understand each other. Aelyx and Cara are from two different planets, and therefore have many differences, which obviously leads to a lot of misunderstandings. Eventually, Aelyx and Cara become close friends and then something more, and I loved watching their relationship grow throughout the trilogy!

2) Hanna and Nik from Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Hanna and Nik are the two main characters in Gemina, the sequel to Illuminae. While Nik harbors a crush on Hanna from the get go, Hanna does not like him at all! In fact, she hit him in one of their first ever meetings, which was hilarious! Their relationship slowly builds throughout the novel, and it is downright amazing.

3) Cat and Griffin from The Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet
GUYS. If you haven't read A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet, you really need to. You are missing out on something special. The book is a fantasy/romance and is absolutely delightful. So if Cat and Griffin's relationship. Though it was lust at first sight, it took quite some time for these two to actually get together. They despise each other at first, and I laughed out loud with how they always bantered back and forth.

4) Serafina and Mahdi from The Waterfire Saga by Jennifer Donnelly
Okay, this is more like a love to hate to love again type of deal. I listened to the first two books via audio, and I love the inklings of a relationship between Serafina and Mahdi. I'm going to continue with the series, but unfortunately not on audio because my library doesn't have a copy. I'm dragging my feet because of it, but just typing about Serafina and Mahdi makes me want to pick up the library copy I have in my room right now!

5) Vivian and Dallas from The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts
This book was super cute and super angsty and just SUPER. Can you tell that I really liked this book? One of my favorite things about The Replacement Crush is the romance. I can't say that Vivian and Dallas hated each other per se, but they were definitely exasperated with the other. I wholly recommend this book just for the romance.

6) Eden and Tyler from the DIMILY Trilogy by Estelle Maskame

If you are a fan of YA contemporary romance and you're looking for something that is not too hard to comprehend, you need to read the DIMILY Trilogy. I've only read the first two books, and I have adored both. The series has a new adult feel to it, especially with the second book, and the romance is to die for. Eden and Tyler are stepsiblings, so their relationship is a whole lot of drama without the taboo of them actually being siblings. Eden and Tyler despise each other at first (Eden is selfish, Tyler is an ass), but they both grow as characters and become a perfect match for each other.

7) Omorose and Cole from Withering Rose by Kaitlyn Davis
8) Tarver and Lilac from These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Tarver and Lilac were one of the very first YA couples I shipped, and because of that, they hold a special place in my heart. After the ship they are on sinks, Tarver and Lilac, who are seemingly opposites, are stranded together. Naturally, they clash for quite a while. However, the soon realize they have to work together in order to survive and that is when the magic happens.

9) Layla and Roth from The Dark Elements Trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Dark Elements Trilogy is my favorite series I've read by Armentrout, and one of the main factors is because of the romance. Layla has never been in a relationship because her kiss literally kills anyone with a soul, but Roth is a demon, and technically doesn't have a soul to kill. Naturally, this leads to temptation, but Layla and Roth butt heads over and over again in the first book in the series. Their banter was great, and while reading this book I was so passionate about them (finally) ending up together!

10) Miki and Yuu from Marmalade Boy by Wataru Yoshizumi
I've read Marmalade Boy at least three times now, and Miki and Yuu never get old. I absolutely love these two together. They are one of my favorite couples. One of the reasons I love manga so much is not only are you reading about a great couple, but you are actually seeing it too. It's not wonder that two of my favorite couples (the other one being Tohru and Kyo from Fruits Basket) are from manga. Miki and Yuu start off as bitter enemies when their parents marry each other when they are around 16. Seeing them grow to love each other was heartwarming.

And those are my top ten hate to love romances! What is one of your favorite romance tropes?

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

My all-time favorite hate-to-love romance is Fire + Brigan (Fire by Kristin Cashore). I highly recommend the book, Genni. :D I'll check out these other ones you have listed here!

    1. UGH I seriously need to read Starflight! I'm pretty sure Cat and Griffin are my favorite book couple at the moment. I have read Graceling earlier (and loved it!) but I never continued on with the series, which is a shame!
