Waiting on Wednesday #48

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Waiting on Wednesday. WoW was hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. Every week we showcase an upcoming release we are excited about. Jill hasn't been posting for quite some time, so Tressa @ Wishful Endings has adopted and renamed WoW to Can't Wait Wednesday.

For this week, I chose Blood and Sand by C.V. Wyk, out January 16, 2018!
The action-packed tale of a 17-year-old warrior princess and a handsome gladiator who dared take on the Roman Republic--and gave rise to the legend of Spartacus....

Roma Victor. The Republic of Rome is on a relentless march to build an empire--an empire built on the backs of the conquered, brought back to Rome as slaves.

Attia was once destined to rule as the queen and swordmaiden of Thrace, the greatest warrior kingdom the world had seen since Sparta. Now she is a slave, given to Xanthus, the Champion of Rome, as a sign of his master's favor. Enslaved as a child, Xanthus is the preeminent gladiator of his generation.

Against all odds, Attia and Xanthus form a tentative bond. A bond that will spark a rebellion. A rebellion that threatens to bring the Roman Republic to its end--and gives rise to the legend of Spartacus....
Why I'm Waiting

I remember hearing about this book shortly after I read The Valiant by Lesley Livingston, and immediately added this to my TBR. Even though it's not as good as female gladiators, we've got a warrior princess! I think the synopsis makes the book sound like every other YA (kind of giving me The Wrath and the Dawn vibes, to be honest) but I  hope it stands out! Even if it doesn't, the book sounds like such a blast.

Are you looking forward to Blood and Sand?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

  3. Sounds good but there seems to be a lot of books giving me a similar vibe. However, once I see a few reviews, I'm sure I'll be convinced to grab it.

    1. You're right! A lot of YA fantasy books get lost in the shuffle. It's the reviews that really set the books apart when deciding what to read! At least, it is for me unless it's written by a favorite author of mine. :)

  4. Why haven't heard of this one before?! The Roman Empire is one of my favourite periods in history. I love books that are set during that time. Thank you for sharing - adding it to my wishlist.

    Happy readings!
