An Update | On Reading, Blogging, and My Life!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be giving you an update on, well...everything! If you haven't noticed, I haven't been to active on this blog, and there are several reasons for why my blogging has fallen to the wayside.

Since you haven't seen me regularly on this blog in quite a while, I figured I would give you some updates on reader-y things and a little bit of my personal life!

Reading

So, funny thing. I was actually going to write an April wrap up, but when I checked goodreads, I was surprised to realize that I only read two books. I'm not behind on my reading goal (100 books) but I am *gasp* on track! Before this semester started, I was easily 7-8 books ahead of schedule, and it was nice to know worry about that. I try not to give too much weight to arbitrary goals, but I've been reading at least a 100 books for a four (?) years now, and I definitely want to continue on that goal.
Now that I'm done with school for this semester (more on that later!), I've begun to read a lot more! I'm almost done with one book, in the middle of another, and over halfway through an audiobook. I'm looking forward to getting back on my expedited track!

Besides the goodreads challenge, I am technically a participant of Romanceopoly, a reading challenge with a romance-themed monopoly board. Out of all the squares (I have no idea how many there are, tbh), I've only completed two. For someone who wanted to finish the whole board, I know that this isn't going to happen. But I hope to put some more attention into this reading challenge!

As for what specific books I am reading....you'll get another post on that soon (imagine me winking, but in a non-creepy way).

I Got a New Twitter Profile!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm just here to post a quick little announcement! I started a new twitter profile specifically for my blog!

My first profile, @gennireads, was originally for my blog, but many of my friends in real life follow it. I always struggled with whether or not I should post my blog posts onto that twitter account, as I knew many of my followers weren't interested in the blogging or book community. I also didn't want to just post about my normal life, because there was a good chunk of followers from the blogging community! Ergo, I never tweeted! To solve this problem, I made two different accounts. The new account is for my blog. You can visit my profile here, or look me up! My twitter handle is @genniblogs. Also, I changed the twitter logo on the right sidebar to link up to @genniblogs.

With this change, expect to see many more tweets from me! I'll be posting about my reviews and other posts on the blog, as well as my thoughts while reading, and maybe my take on some bookish drama!

If you also have a twitter, please comment your username below! I'd love to follow you and talk with you more. :)

Thank you so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

June Wrap Up + Updates!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni and today I'll be talking about the books I have read in June as well as share some updates!

June was a pretty great reading month for me (11 books!) and now I'm only three books behind my goodreads goal! I also enjoyed all the books I read last month. All of them were 3.5 Star reads or more! I've only reviewed three of the eleven so far, so be on the lookout for some more reviews this July!

1) Save the Date by Morgan Matson

Save the Date is Matson's newest release, and I really enjoyed it! It wasn't my favorite, but it was entertaining. There was just a bit too many antics for me, and the book seemed much longer than the couple days it took place in.

2) Breathe by Sarah Crossan

Review

Breathe is the first in a dystopian duology. Though I didn't love the book, it was good enough for me to continue on with the series. I'm planning on reading Resist this first week of July. The characters verged on one-dimensional, but the setting itself was intriguing.

Where Have I Been??

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm just going to give a recap over my last two weeks!

What I've Been Doing!

It's been a good two weeks since my last post, and I've missed everyone! But I have a really good reason - finals! My finals started on the 30th, and by the time you see this post, I'll be done with my first year of college! Basically, I've just been studying nonstop. The week after the 20th (my last post) and before the 30th (my finals) were jam-packed with papers and projects, so I didn't have the time to put posts up that I was happy with. Then finals came, and honestly, it's been a blur of anxiety and stress! I'm actually writing this before my finals are done, so I can't really tell you that I'm stress-free as of yet. But, my hardest finals are done with, and I'm not worried about my last one, so that's a plus. As this was published, I'll be taking my last final. Now that finals are (kind of) over, expect to see me a lot more active on here! I want to go back to posting at least three times a week, and at least one of those being a book review.

What I've Read!

Just because I've had projects and finals galore doesn't mean I wasn't reading. Reading has been a stress-reliever these past couple weeks, and I've been able to read some really great books. When you saw me last, I had just put up my review for Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. Since Lady Midnight I have read the following books!

  1.  Sanctuary by Caryn Lyx
  2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
  3. Fireblood by Elly Blake
  4. Rebel by Amy Tintera
  5. Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman
  6. Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen
  7. Emergency Contact by Mary HK Choi
  8. Obsidio by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

 What I'm Currently Reading!

So I finished Obsidio on the 2nd (it's the 5th as I write this), and I'm in a funk with what to read next. I'm currently listening to the audiobook of Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson and I just started reading my ARC of Lizzie by Dawn Ius. I'm liking Heart of Betrayal, but there's just something about Lizzie that isn't grabbing my attention right now.

What You'll See Next!

Before my impromptu disappearance, I had some posts that I was planning. I want to review the books above, whether that be a full review or some mini-reviews. The review you'll be seeing next is Emergency Contact by Mary HK Choi. Spoiler: I really liked it, and even made some of my own graphics after I finished it.  I haven't been watching a ton of movies, so there won't be movie reviews for a bit. However, I do plan on seeing Avengers: Infinity War this week, so we'll see if I care enough to write a review for that. There's going to be a ~fun~ post coming very soon, but I don't want to tell you to ruin the surprise. :)

That's all I have today! Sorry for my abrupt disappearance, but I'm now back with my regular programming!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Blogging Update!!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! It's been a bit since I've posted (a full week, ahh!), but I have to prioritize schoolwork over this. But, there have been things going behind the scenes for this blog!

First, I was emailed by a team member from Entangled Teen: Crush to review two of their books, Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews and The First Kiss Hypothesis by Christina Mandelski. I'm currently reading Offsetting Penalties, and my review will be published on the 2nd. I then have to read First Kiss Hypothesis real quick, and that review will be up on the 5th! There will also be an author guest post on the 10th by Ally Mathews, so be on the lookout for all those posts! I was so elated when I got the email to review these books. I have never been contacted to review; I have always requested, so this was very exciting for me!!

Second, I was auto-approved on Netgalley for Simon & Schuster Children's, which is crazy!! I rarely request from them, simply because I know I will most likely be denied. So it was an utter surprise to see that I was auto-approved, and I'm tickled pink.
Look at that!! Ahh!!

Both of these *events* are just so validating. I love blogging, but seeing comments and seeing people notice my blog makes me actually feel like I'm doing something important. Knowing that I am making an impact, as little as it is, makes me very excited! Hopefully I'll be able to do some deeper and more complex posts soon. Of course I love to talk about books, but I also have other passions, and I want to use this blog to combine all of them together.

So yeah, I just wanted to give you guys an update! It's been a bit since I've just talked about my blogging experience instead of just posting my usual posts, and wanted you to know what's happening! I'm pretty strapped for time 24/7, but I hope to blog more regularly soon. I'm actually writing this during a medieval British Literature class (we're talking about Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and my attention has disappeared) that is required for my major!

Okay...that's it! (I think!) If anything else happens, I'll be writing another one of these. :D I'm just super happy that both of these things happened, and it spurred a lot of creativity and excitement for this blog!

Well, enough rambling! Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!
