T5W: Books to Get out of a Slump

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top 5 Wedensday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. Lainey from Gingerreadslainey is the founder of Top 5 Wednesday.

This week we are featuring the top five books that we recommend to get you out of a reading slump! When I am feeling slumpy, I always pick up new adult romances, but I'll be (trying) to feature different types of genres.

To be honest, I'm kind of in a slump right now, but I don't want to be! School is taking over my life, and my schedule is pretty hectic. I just don't have time to read, as I'm getting home around 6pm and doing homework until after midnight. But, my schedule will calm down in a bit so I'm hoping that my reading will pick up.

Here are my five picks to get you out of a slump! These are in no particular order.

5) Smut by Karina Halle
Smut is a NA novel, and no, not a smut novel. The plot focuses on two college kids that decide to make some cash by writing smut together. There is a LOT of sexual tension, and I couldn't stop reading. In fact, I recommend any of Karina Halle's books for getting out of a slump. Her books are always so fast paced and the chemistry is off the charts.

4) The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Armentrout is a solid YA and NA author. Her books are consistenly fast paced and fun to read. The Provlem with Forever is a YA contemporary romance that I flew through. Though the book is pretty big (474 pages!) but I read it in one day. This book is a classic YA novel. Boy and girl are reunited after years in high school, and of course, drama and romance ensue.

3) The Winter King by C.L. Wilson
The Winter King is a fantasy romance novel. This book has it all: magic, romance, political intruige, sexual tension, and more. Wrap all of those together, and you get a fast paced and beautiful fantasy novel. This is high fantasy, but the world building is done so well that it wasn't confusing.

2) The Selection by Kiera Cass
Okay guys, so I'm going to say this upfront: this series isn't necessarily good. Nevertheless, it is fun to read. The series doesn't have much substance, but it is fun. Albeit predictable, they will get you out of a reading slump. The series teeters on frustratingly-good and frustratingly-bad.

1) Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
Last but certainly not least is Everything, Everything! Plus, if you are feeling slumpy by May 19th, you can watch the upcoming movie. Which, by the way, looks amazing! Be sure to check out the trailer that just dropped! The main character, Madeline, has a great voice and her story is fast paced. Plus, there is a massive twist that you don't want to miss.

Have you read any of the books listed above? What books do you read to get out of a slump?

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

  2. Basically anything by JLA can get me out of a reading slump. Her books are just so... readable. I fly through them. Just recently I was feeling slumpy and decided to reread the Lux series. Bingo - slump gone. :)

    1. Yes I completely agree! Readable is definitely the correct adjective to describe Jennifer L. Armentrout's books. Sometimes I'll just skim my favorite parts of her books and then I am immediately out of my slump. :)

      Thanks for visiting Tanya!

    1. I am not surprised!! I seriously need to buy it so I can read it over and over! It's such a shame that the sequels were never published!

      Thank you Alyssa! :D
