Waiting on Wednesday #40

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Waiting on Wednesday. WoW was hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. Every week we showcase an upcoming release we are excited about. Jill hasn't been posting for quite some time, so Tressa @ Wishful Endings has adopted and renamed WoW to Can't Wait Wednesday.

My pick for this week  is Defiant by Lesley Livingston!
The darling of the Roman Empire is in for the fight of her life.

Be brave, gladiatrix… And be wary. Once you win Caesar’s love, you’ll earn his enemies’ hate.

Fallon was warned.

Now she is about to pay the price for winning the love of the Roman people as Caesar’s victorious gladiatrix.

In this highly anticipated sequel to THE VALIANT, Fallon and her warrior sisters find themselves thrust into a vicious conflict with a rival gladiator academy, one that will threaten not only Fallon’s heart – and her love for Roman soldier Cai – but the very heart of the ancient Roman Empire.

When dark treachery and vicious power struggles threaten her hard-won freedom, the only thing that might help the girl known as Victrix save herself and her sisters is a tribe of long-forgotten mythic Amazon warriors.

The only trouble is, they might just kill her themselves first.

Why I'm Waiting!

I really, really enjoyed The Valiant. It isn't a favorite book of mine, but I loved the premise and what the book stood for. Too many times we see strong male characters and a female damsel in distress. I loved that The Valiant showed that everyone is equal. And I mean...female gladiators kicking butt. And now the introduction of Amazon warriors kicking butt. Need I say more??

Are you looking forward to The Defiant?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

    1. Female gladiators is a major selling point! Lesley Livingston definitely did her research when it came to this book as well, so everything makes sense in the era. Thank you!!

  4. You've just reminded me I wanted to reserve Valiant from my local library. I didn't know this was a series (of course most are so I should have assumed). Thanks for sharing!

    1. I hope you like it Barb! It wasn't originally a series, but the first book did really well and by the time it was out for a couple weeks, the author got a deal for another book in the series. It's just a duology, as of now! You're welcome. :)

    1. I hope this is as good as the first!! My complaint about the first book was just that I guessed one of the twists early on and that the pacing was a bit off for me at first. I'm assuming with a second book it's bound to get better!! I hope you LOVE the Valiant!!

Of course! Thanks for stopping by here. :D

    1. I do too! At a book event I went to, Livingston mentioned that there actually were female gladiators, but there aren't a lot of relics for them and only recently did the historical community come out and say that they existed!
