I’ve lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive :) !!
Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!
Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.
What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.
1) As someone who loses items quite frequently, this whole ordeal with Poppy losing her ring in stressing me out! I actually lost my class ring from my high school graduation a couple weeks ago. I found it (thank goodness), but I was freaking out. I can't imagine losing such a valuable family heirloom!
2) This Scrabble game reallly makes me want to play the game! I'm just like Poppy, I would put down words like "raw" or "pig"!
3) I'm actually really liking the footnotes throughout the book. I was a bit surprised that I did, because I hated them in Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I think it's because I'm listening to the audiobook, so I don't feel like my reading is interrupted.
4) I really don't like how Magnus never listens to Poppy. It seems like he just wants her for sex. He never is worried about her feelings, or how hard this whole situation (wedding, meeting parents, excluding her on important details) is for her. He even goes so far to endanger her career, which is outrageous. It just shows that Magnus doesn't actually respect Poppy!
5) I'm really shipping Poppy and Sam but I seriously have no idea how they are going to make it work!
6) The scene where Poppy figures out the scandal and tries to get Sam's attention as she was getting escorted out of the building was hysterical! It highlighted what I am liking most about the book, which are Poppy's amusing antics combined with serious situations. Sometimes it comes off childish, but she really does have the best intentions no matter what!
7) Okay, I didn't necessarily see the whole unknown number situation about Magnus happening (major spoiler, trying to be vague!), but I'm not necessarily surprised either. The Tavishes are absolutely horrible and snobbish.
8) Poppy is confronting someone!!! I'm so happy that she is finally standing up for herself. I hope she keeps it up and confronts the Tavishes for treating her and speaking about her so horribly. Even after they learned about her parents, they weren't welcoming! Who does that?!
9) Lucinda is the worst wedding planner ever! She never does any work, guilts Poppy for planning the wedding when it is her own job, and is rude to everyone. Did she assume that Poppy knew about her past with a certain someone? Also, the fact that this certain someone didn't tell Poppy before proposing to her, or throughout the wedding planning, shines a very bad light on him. UGH.
10) "If you can't keep tabs on him, you shouldn't marry him" is literally a quote I just heard! I truly dislike Lucinda. She's so self righteous and unapologetic, and then shifts the blames to Magnus being an ass to her! What a trash person.
11) Wait..are some of the Tavishes getting a little bit of redemption? Wanda doesn't seem that bad, actually. I love that Poppy is being transparent as to why she feels inferior around them.
12) This was such a lovely conclusion! At times I got annoyed with Poppy - she seemed childlike at times - but her character growth was amazing. The whole last hour I was just completely zoned in. I would definitely recommend the book!!
13) Some other notes that I didn't get because I was eating and listening! I loved the woods scene and thought it was so romantic! The "I love you" was different from anything else I've read, but very fitting for the relationship Poppy is in. Also, I love that he kept all the texts! I was so worried they would be thrown away. (Couldn't name names because of spoilers!! Hopefully you know what I mean if you've read the book!)
I give I've Got Your Number
4 out of 5 Flowers!
Have you read I've Got Your Number? What did you think?
Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!
Happy Reading!
Genni @ Ready, Set, Read!
this sounds like a part frustrating and part lovely read. I don't even know what to do, haha. Although I HAVE been meaning to read Sophie Kinsela's chick-lits. Also, your rundown was very enjoyable to read, Genni :D
ReplyDeleteI think what made it so fun was that I was getting so frustrated! I was very invested, haha! I've been wanting to read Sophie Kinsella as well, and though I didn't love this one, I would recommend it. :)
DeleteAnd thank you! It's a new type of post I'm doing, but it was fun just to type down thoughts instead of write paragraphs! :)
What a fun review! I think this is a great way to review an audiobook. I'm pretty sure I've read this book, but have forgotten a lot of the particulars, so I was glad to review your review.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angela!! I always jot down notes when listening, so I decided to put them all in a post. :D Thanks for visiting!
DeleteThis was a fun review! I love Kinsella, and I really enjoyed this book. She usually gives us these fun and quirky heroines, and her her books are filled with warmth, humor, and hijinks. Kinsella books never fail to make me smile.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam!! I've heard that most of Kinsella's heroines are "fun and quirky" as you say! If they were anything like Poppy, I'm definitely going to pick up more of her books. :) When I was really young I was a huge fan of the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie, so I'd love to get to the source material one day! :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by Sam! Have a wonderful September!
