Today I'm participating in the Greek Gods book tag. I wasn't tagged, but did see this on Melanie's blog, Mel to the Any. As someone who was obsessed with Greek gods and goddesses back in the day, I was super excited to see this post. Also, I'm so worn out from university and I didn't have any good ideas, so there's that.
Here are the rules for the tag:
- Pingback to Zuky here so she can read all your posts!
- You can use her graphics if you like, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. The graphics for this post are my own, so if you use the graphics from here, please credit me (Genni @ Ready, Set, Read)!
- Tag as many people as you want, but please share the love.
Um...I don't know if I have just one favorite book. But one of my favorite books of this year has been Autoboyography by Christina Lauren. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang and Analee, in Real Life by Janelle Milanes are standouts as well. All of them have romance and a strong character development.
Cat from This Cruel Design is pretty badass. Living with another person in her mind and having to balance both? Pretty hard. Cat tries to subdue an epidemic, traveling around, trying to make allies, and hacking all around. Her actions in the last third of the book were so badass, and with that cliffhanger of and ending, I hope she is okay.
I want to say Analee, in Real Life again, but in hopes of sending love to more books during this post, I'll say Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young! You can check out my review here, where I shine praises about the action and familial themes in the novel.
I read Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs this January, and I still think of it time to time! This was the first time I read a slave narrative, and it was eye-opening and inspirational. Harriet's strength is astounding, and her story speaks to the horrors of slavery.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is amazing. Whether or not you support the Black Lives Matter movement, the novel is a great opening door into the movement. While I supported BLM beforehand, the novel gave me a much clearer perspective. I eagerly anticipate Thomas' next novel!
I think I'm going to have to go with Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James, just because the series gave such a bad name to the romance/smut genre. There is such a sense of shame when it comes to reading romance/smut in the community, and I think Fifty Shades of Grey just heightened that embarrassment.
Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman perfectly describes this prompt. Both the movie and the book are spectacular. While the author isn't gay, I've heard from LGBTQ+ readers and watchers that both the novel and film were wonderful depictions of the gay community.

The most recent book I've read in one day is Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren. This author duo does a wonderful job writing books that I can't put down, and Beautiful Player was no exception. I love their writing style, and the romance between a young woman and her brother's best friend (one of my favorite tropes) was a huge plus.
And those are my answers! Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What did you think?
I tag...
