BOOK REVIEW | November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Title: November 9
Author: Colleen Hoover
Pages: 310
Source: I won this through a giveaway on my friend Poulami's blog!
Synopsis:
This is a love story between a guy (me) and a girl (Fallon).
I think.
Can it even be considered a love story if it doesn’t end with love?
Mysteries end when the mystery is solved.
Biographies end when the life story has been told.
Love stories should end with love, right?
Maybe I’m wrong, then. Maybe this isn’t a love story. If you ask me…I’d say this might even be considered a tragedy.
Whatever it is—however it ends—I promised I would tell it. So without further ado.

Once upon a time…I met a girl.
THE girl

The Friday 56 with Book Beginnings! No. 5

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I am participating in Friday 56 and Book Beginnings. They are hosted by Freda's Voice and Rose City Reader, respectively.

The rules are simple for both. For the Friday 56, we turn to page 56 or 56% in our e-reader and highlight a passage of any book! Book Beginnings is where you feature the first sentence (or so) of a book and give your thoughts and impressions.

Book Beginnings

My choice for Book Beginnings this week is Flawed by Cecilia Ahern. I got this from my library a bit back, but I haven't been able to read it yet. I do want to get around to it before the school year starts later next month. Flawed is a YA dystopian, but I don't know too much besides that.

Book Review: Too Late by Colleen Hoover

Too Late by Colleen Hoover took me by surprise.

I knew getting into the book that I would fall in love with it, but I didn't know that I would be as taken aback as I was. Colleen Hoover has a great formula she uses for all of her books. Out of all the other CoHo books I have read, Hopeless was the darkest one. Too Late takes the cake by a landslide though!

Too Late is much darker and delves into serious topics that I was not expecting. The novel follows Sloan, a college girl in an abusive relationship with, Asa, who controls the biggest drug cartel in the college. Sloan stays with him not because she's in love, but to protect what's left of her family. Everything blows up when Carter comes into her life. What she doesn't know is that Carter is an undercover cop.

The novel is told from three points of view: Asa, Carter, and Sloan. I never disliked any of the POVs, but I did like Carter's the best. However, Hoover did really well writing as Asa. He's crazy and sadistic. I've never read in the point of view as a crazy person, so Asa's chapters were intriguing.

Too Late is available for free on the wattpad app. In my personal opinion, this is good enough to be published. Yes, there needs to be some editing and expansion of some of the characters, but Colleen's raw talent shines through.

My main issue with the book was that I wanted to know more about the characters. I felt like some were one dimensional. The three main characters definitely were not, but there were some secondary ones that felt like carbon copies of a stereotypical character. The two that come to mind that I want to see more of is Sloan's disabled younger brother, and Jon, Asa's top henchman.

The last couple chapters were the strongest in my opinion. There wasn't a moment that I was bored with the book, but the second half was much more entertaining.  I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for an easy read. Too Late is new adult, so if you're uncomfortable with more steamy scenes, then don't read it.

With that, I give this book

4 out of 5 Stars!

Book Review: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Ugly Love tore me apart and put me back together again!

I have heard such great things about this Colleen Hoover book and it did not disappoint. If you don't know who Colleen Hoover is, she is a new adult author that has become one of my favorite authors. After reading Maybe Someday earlier in 2015, I was worried that I would be disappointed by this one. Luckily and thankfully, I was not. I adored the story!

Ugly Love tells the story of Tate Collins and Miles Archer. When Tate movies in with her older brother, Corbin, she doesn't realize her life is about to get a lot more complicated. Besides knowing that, I would go into this book blind. That is what I have done with a three of the five novels I have read from her and those have turned out to be my favorite.

This book was set up in a great way. Instead of being completely linear, the book follows two points of view. Tate's point of view takes place in present day, while Miles' point of view takes place six years ago. I haven't read a book with that type of point of view, and only know of one book that does the same thing, which is I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. I loved how the past and present intertwined and how parts of the past would come up in the present.

I didn't realize how much I would cry in this book. I had only about 100 or so pages left and hadn't cried yet, so I didn't realize what all the mayhem was about. Though I know that there is always a tragic crisis, but I wasn't expecting what happened. This one struck me harder than the others and I was just a ball of tears. From the last 100 pages, I cried both sad and happy tears until the very end.

In comparison to the other Colleen Hoover books I have read, this is my second favorite. Maybe Someday holds this cake, but this was a very close second. My only issue was that some of Tate's reactions were annoying. She didn't stand up for herself as much as I wanted to throughout the book, which was my main problem.

Besides that, I want to remain vague with the book. It is best going into the book without knowing much, but do know that this book has very polarized opinions. While others love this, there is also a good amount that sees major flaws. Do know that this book is racier in comparison to some other works by Colleen Hoover, so if you don't like reading sex scenes then the book might not be for you. They aren't detailed, but it is obvious what is going on.

With that, I give this book

4.75 out of 5 Stars!

Book Traveling Thursday: A Book You're Thankful For

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm participating in the weekly meme Book Traveling Thursdays hosted by Danielle at Shelfies Above Selfies and Catia at The Girl Who Read Too Much!

This is one of my favorite weekly memes that I just started. Basically, we show a book that pertains to the subject for each week and the covers from all over the world of that book. Because it is Thanksgiving today, we're doing showcasing a book that we are thankful for! I did a post like this on Tuesday, where I listed the top ten books I'm thankful for this year! Go check it out here!

Today I am choosing....

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover! This is one of my favorite books of this year and I am so thankful I found this when I did! Colleen Hoover's writing is so addicting and reading the novel was such a great experience!

English Covers

I like both of these covers! The one of the left is my favorite out of all of these and the most commonly found. I think it completely enraptures the whole enitre story! The cover on the right is alright. I feel like it is a pretty standard cover, and I don't really feel like it captures the essence of the story. But overall, it is okay. Not great, but fine. I definitely like the cover on the left more. It's my favorite and I'm glad I own that version!

 Favorite

This edition is the Polish one! Instead of using the top left cover as my favorite, I decided to pick anther cover that I liked. It's not as good as the first, but something just immediately just draws me into this cover. The color scheme is great and I like the pose of the cover model as well. I don't really know why I like this cover so much, I just do! If I were able to collect books, I would be buying this one.

                      Least Favorite

Both of these novels are my least favorite out of all the editions. The one to the left is Indonesian while the one of the right is German. I don't really like the one of the left because it isn't an accurate representation of the book at all. It just makes the book look angsty and juvenile. The one of the right also makes Sydney, the main character in the novel, look weak while in the novel, she is a strong female character. The cover also gives off vibes from the original Delirium cover by Lauren Oliver.

Overall, there were more covers that I anticipated to liking. Even the my least favorite ones aren't that bad! What books are you thankful for? Maybe Someday has been one of the best reads of this year and I'm so happy that I took a chance on it.What has been one of your favorite books of this year?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you're having a good day!

Mini Review! (#1)

Hey guys! Welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm going to be doing something new. Since my last review, I have read quite a lot of books and right now I don't have enough to time to post a full review that I will be proud of. I just started my junior year in high school, but I am going to try my hardest to post at least twice a week.

Since reading Deliverance, I've read 7 more novels and one novella. However, I won't be talking about Cell Phone Swap since I'm going to include that in my second Wattpad review post. I am also planning on doing a series review of The Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins, so I'm not going to mention those as well.

The first book I read was The Beginning of Never by O.E. Boroni. I did a full review of this book, so if you want to check out just click the link above! Overall, I liked the book, but I didn't love it. There were some problems I had with the book, but the second book in the trilogy was so much better. If you're hesitant to pick this up or didn't like the first book, I would still recommend the series to you guys. It isn't perfect, but the second book was such a vast improvement to the first.

After reading The Beginning of Never,I wanted to read something that I knew I was going to love no matter what. I recently just read Maybe Someday (Check out my fangirl review here!) and I was itching to pick up Maybe Not, which is a novella focused on two side characters from the original novel, Warren and Bridgette. It was so cute and funny and I could not get enough of it! If Colleen Hoover just suddenly released a full length novel of them, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I didn't love it as much as I loved Maybe Someday, but I loved it nonetheless and gave it 4.6 stars. Definitely check it out if you liked either Warren or Bridgette in Maybe Someday or want to read something of Hoover's that's lighter than what she normally puts out.

Once I finished Maybe Not, I felt the need to finish a series. So I picked up Opposition, final book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and was sucked into a black hole of reading. Anything that Armentrout puts out is super addicting and fast paced. I could not put Oppositon down for the life of me! It is by far my favorite of all five books. The Lux series isn't my favorite, but Opposition heightened my view of the series by far. I gave this book around 4 stars. If you're looking for a series that you won't be able to put down that features sassy humans and aliens, then this is the one for you. Don't be intimidated by the length of the series - it's super fun and quick!

After the amazing read that was Opposition, I decided to pick up the sequel to The Beginning of Never. I was a bit hesitant reading it's sequel because I was a bit disappointed with the first one. The Way to Never, however, blew me away. There is a significant time jump between the two books, but it was done so well! I really liked The Way to Never in comparison to the first. Though I still had some issues with the novel, they were minor compared to the first one. The ending of this book killed me! I am dying for the next and final book! If you didn't like the first book but are a bit curious to see what happens, then I would still say to pick this one up.

I picked up Sweet Evil and Sweet Peril as well by Wendy Higgins, but I'll be doing a full series review soon! Afterwards, I read a book for school that I am pretty sure was a form of slow torture. Next, I read a book on Wattpad which I will also be reviewing!

Have you read any of these books above? What book have you read recently that blew your mind?

Thanks for stopping by!
