The Friday 56 with Book Beginnings! No. 4

Hey everyone! It's been a pretty long time since I've participated in The Friday 56 or Book Beginnings, and I figured I should just jump right back in! The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader.

The rules are simple for both. For the Friday 56, we turn to page 56 or 56% in our e-reader and highlight a passage of any book! Book Beginnings is where you feature the first sentence (or so) of a book and give your thoughts and impressions.

Friday 56
This is from page 56 of Passenger by Alexandra Bracken! It is my current read (as I'm typing this I'm on page 100). The quote I chose is right when a part of the ship breaks, leaving the female heroine, Etta, overboard.

Book Beginnings

This is the opening sentence to Frankstein by Mary Shelley! I have to read this book over the summer for my AP English class my upcoming junior year. I hope I like it!

And that is my Friday 56 and Book Beginnings! They're both pretty dark scenes, but I'm liking what I'm reading. If you participated this week, feel free to link them along with your comments. :)

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading! (And Friday!)

  1. Oo, sounds interesting! I've heard various things about Passenger, but I love ships! Do you like it so far?

Frankenstein is really good! I had to read it for a class and I loved it! I hope you enjoy it. :)

    1. I like it so far, but I'm not loving it like so many other people have. I'm glad to hear that! I'm a bit worried I won't understand all of it, but I think I will!

  2. I really want to read Frankenstein and recently bought it, so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it :)

  3. Passenger is on my TBR mountain but I haven't had a chance to start it yet. Frankenstein is one of those books I have heard so much about that I feel like I've read it, but I haven't. I'm working my way through TBR mountain and landed on Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas this week. Happy reading!

  6. This sounds like a good read! Though an intense one. Your 11th grade AP summer reads are way better than they were when I was in high school. I think I had to read a lot of Dickens and I'm thinking that was the year I suffered through James Joyce. Compelling summer reading it was not! Enjoy your reading!

    1. I'm pretty sure I'll have to read Dickens later this year! I'm actually an upcoming senior, so we're focusing on British literature. Hopefully I'll have a better experience. :D Thanks Katherine!

  7. I've never actually read Frankenstein but hope to get to it some time this year. Maybe October should be my goal month. Sounds like it starts off well.

  9. I hope you like Passenger. Not enough happened for my tastes, though, for the length of the book.

Frankenstein, on the other hand, is one of my all-time favorites! Every time I watch one of the movie adaptations, I'm always a little disappointed because they never get it right. The closest one might be the one with Kenneth Branaugh and Robert De Niro.... :)

    1. That seems to be my issue as well. I'm 100 or so pages in, and nothing seems to have actually happened. I'm hoping it picks up!

I hope I love it like you did, Lauren! Now that you said that, I might have to do a joint book-movie adaption review to compare the two!

    2. That could be cool!

      Happy reading! :)
