Top Ten Tuesday: Characters You Just Didn't Click With

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Check them out!

This week's Top Ten Tuesday is all about characters that we just didn't like. I've had my fair share of these, so for this I'll be restricting it to only these past two years.

10.) Bettina from The Things You Kiss Goodbye by Leslie Connor

I read this novel earlier this summer and Bettina just bugged me so much. Though I sympathize with her situation, I just could not really care for her that much. She put herself in so many bad positions, which made me so frustrated at her and made me like her less and less.

9.)Megan from Carrier of the Mark and Shadow of the Mark by Leigh Fallon

I didn't have to much of an issue with Megan in Carrier of the Mark, but when I read the sequel, Shadow of the Mark, I could not stand her! She made me so angry with her decisions and some of the major conflicts could have been avoided if she just thought about things more. Her reasoning is dumb, and she over analyzes and worries too much for me to really like her.

8.) Tavia Michaels from Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike

Tavia, Tavia, Tavia. What can I say about you? Nothing, really. I'm so indifferent to Tavia's character just because she never really shows any personality that's not plucked straight out of the stereotypical young adult heroine.

7.) Chloe King from the Nine Lives of Chloe King by Celia Thomson

It's been quite a while since I read this book, and I still get annoyed when I think about Chloe. She was too immature for me and worried about things that I did not really care about at all. Then again, I also did watch the show as well, and let's just say it didn't wow me at all.

6.) Nailer from Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi

Ship Breaker might just be one of my least favorite books of last year. The plot had such a great premise, and I was so excited to read it. When I did, I was so disappointed. All the characters fell flat for me and I never related to Nailer throughout the whole entire novel.

5.)  Thea Holder from Dark Metropolis by Jaclyn Dolamore

Dark Metropolis is a good book, don't get me wrong. It just didn't impress me either. Though it was a short novel, it took me longer than I expected it to. The main reason is Thea. I liked her enough, but I never felt connected to her in any way. If her arm was cut off suddenly in the book, I wouldn't have really cared.

4.) Cade and Dara from Wild by Alex Mallory

I had to trudge through this book; it took me more than one month to read! While reading it, I kept on putting it down after only a handful of pages and I just did not care one ounce. I liked Cade and Dara together, but when they were apart (which they were for basically the whole book) they fell flat. Dara is your typical teenage girl and I thought I would like her and instantly connect to her. Instead, her character felt really forced and my connection to her or Cade was nonexistent.

3.) Ember Hill from Talon by Julie Kagawa

After such the hype that Talon got, I expected something amazing. I expected something that I would love. Needless to say, I was so disappointed. I never liked Ember and her love interests weren't that enticing as well. Though the plot was really cool, the characters is what it takes for me to really love a book, and I just couldn't with this one.

2.) Violet Lasting from The Jewel by Amy Ewing

Not only did I not 'click' with Violet Lasting, but I hated Violet Lasting. The Jewel has a plethora of YA tropes that I cannot help but hate, including the beautiful but humble heroine. Violet was meek and weak (I rhymed, I know), but then all of a sudden she had a complete 180 personality flip and she's standing up for herself? I seriously did not understand how this girl's mind worked.

1.) Anna Whitt from Sweet Evil and Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

I hated Anna with a burning passion when I read Sweet Evil, the first in Wendy Higgins's Sweet Trilogy. She was practically a saint with her no sinning lifestyle, and she shamed pretty much everyone who drank or had sex. She got better in the second book, but I still don't like her that much. I think I'll actually like her in the third book, which I am about to start. Let's not get me started on Kaidan, her love interest. I have literally face-palmed myself while reading these two books just because the characters infuriate me on such a deep level. Yet somehow, I'm still reading the books. Makes sense, right?

Can we also just take the time to notice how awkward this dress is?? There's ruching on the bust, but it's not halfway down. I'm just saying, if I were to wear this dress not only would I have severe issues walking, but one of my boobs would definitely not be comfortable. The model is also doing a weird contortion pose as well and I do not understand what the crap the male model is doing. Is he about to brush her hair? Itch his face? Or is her just so cool that he can have a hand floating there and think he can pull it off?  I have never understood this cover from the moment I laid eyes on it. *Rant Over*

Thanks for checking out my blog everyone!! Happy Reading and hope your day is going well!

  1. I liked Kaidan more than Anna. On Wendy's site she has some scenes written from his POV that made me like and understand his character better. The third book is the best in the series, and I am actually really looking forward to reading Kaidan's book when it comes out.

  2. Yeah I'm starting to warm up to Kaidan more than I am Anna. I'll definitely check out the scenes! He seems to keep a lot in, so knowing his actual thoughts will probably help me way more. I am too! Hopefully my library will have it soon!

  3. I haven't read any of these but I have seen Carrier of the Mark crop up a few times this week.

    1. Out of all of them, I would recommend Sweet Evil. I didn't mind Carrier of the Mark so much as I did Shadow of the Mark because it couldn't grab my attention and hold onto it.
