TTT | Books I LOVE With Less Than 2,000 Ratings

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Teusday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. I don't participate in TTT every week, but only when it strikes my fancy.

This week's topic is books we love that have less than 2,000 ratings on goodreads. I don't give out a ton of five stars, so I'm going to be recommending both four and five star reads today. Also, I'm not going to add ARCs on here. There are several ARCs that I have read and enjoyed that are under 2,000 ratings, but that might change pretty quickly once the book is published. I am also writing this early, so all these books had less than 2,000 ratings on January 5th. I wanted to recommend books that I genuinely enjoyed and still remember, so I only put 9 on this list.

Without further ado, here are 9 books I love that have less than 2,000 ratings on goodreads.

The Cha Cha Files: A Chapina Poetica by Maya Chinchilla

Goodreads
I read this poetry collection for a class, and it was amazing. There were some poems in here that didn't speak to me, but the majority of them were excellent.

Analee, In Real Life by Janelle Milanes
Goodreads
The more I think of Analee, in Real Life, the more I enjoy the book. Analee was such a great MC, and her anxieties really spoke to me. If you want to know more of my thoughts, here's my review

Withering Rose by Katilyn Davis
Goodreads
Withering Rose is a Beauty and Beast retelling that I really enjoyed. Honestly, I haven't read this in a couple years and I've forgotten a lot, but I remember really liking it. I'm pretty sure I still have this on my kindle app, so I might just reread it. Here is my review

This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada
Goodreads
This Cruel Design is the sequel to Emily Suvada's debut, This Mortal Design. This sequel is thrilling and the ending outrageous in the best way possible. Here is my review.

Sanctuary by Caryn Lix
Goodreads
I received an ARC of Sanctuary last year and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Sanctuary is a sci-fi thriller with a bit of romance, and I'm definitely reading the sequel that is coming out this year. Here is my review

The Raging Ones by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Goodreads
The Raging Ones is the first in a fantasy duology that took me by surprise. I read many mixed reviews, but I ended up enjoying the book a lot more than I thought. It was a bit slow at times, but the characters made up for it. Here is my review

Run Away With Me by Mila Gray
Goodreads
Run Away With Me is the third book in a contemporary romance series by Mila Gray. I love the first two books, and Run Away With Me wasn't an exception. In fact, it's my favorite of the three, and I seriously don't know why more people haven't read it! Here is my review.

Nyxia Unleashed by Scott Reintgen
Goodreads
Nyxia Unleashed is the sequel to Reintgen's debut novel, Nyxia. Though I didn't like Nyxia Unleashed as much, it did provide a lot of insight into the world and I'm looking forward to the final novel, which is due this year. Here is my review
Let the Wind Rise by Shannon Messenger
Goodreads
Let the Wind Rise is the final book in the Sky Fall series, which I loved. I read this years ago, so I don't remember the details, but I was very pleased with how it all turned out.

And those are 10 books with less than 2,000 ratings that I really enjoyed, and perhaps loved! I would recommend any and all of these! Do we have any books in common? What are some books you love with less than 2000 ratings?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

TTT | The Ten Most Recent Additions to My To-Read List

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in the weekly meme, Top Ten Tuesday. Every Tuesday, Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl provides prompts, and bloggers answer them! I don't participate in these every Tuesday but just every now and again.

This week's prompt is the most recent additions to our to-read list. I'm writing and scheduling this post, so these additions are from the night of January 5th. I would assume that I will add more in between the time I'm writing this post and by it's publication date. If you want the most updated version, feel free to check out my goodreads to-read list

Here are my most recent additions to my list on goodreads!

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

I was looking for historical fiction recommendations on twitter (follow me here if you want!), and I was recommended this by V, who blogs over at Audio Killed the Bookmark. It sounds absolutely wonderful, as it follows two impoverished young girls who are kidnapped and sold to rich people. Scribd and my library doesn't have this though, so I'm not too sure when I'll get my hands on it!

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

This is another book I added because of twitter! Sam from WLAAB mentioned that The Running Dream was one of her favorite reads of 2018. I love that book, and responded as such, and the author responded! Sam also mentioned she really liked Flipped, and I went to goodreads right away and added it.

TTT | Backlist Books I Want to Read

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm going to be joining in on Top Ten Tuesday, or TTT. TTT is a weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is, "Backlist Books I Want to Read." In case you don't know, backlist books are older books avaiable from a publisher, rather than newer releases, that are sometimes referred to as the frontlist.

There are a ton of backlist books I want to read, but here are ten that I am eager to read, in no particular order!

10) Gone by Michael Grant
Michael Grant's seven (?) book long series is so well known in the YA community. As an avid YA reader, I feel like I should give this one a look!

9) Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler
I read Butler's Kindred last year, and absolutely loved it. I watched an operatic musical of this book, and thought it was great. So now I just need to actually read the book!

8) Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
I don't know how I did it, but I managed not to be spoiled about this, except for some minor things. I definitely want to read and watch the movie, but this isn't a priority right now. One day!

TTT | 10 Best Villains!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in the weekly meme, Top Ten Tuesday. TTT is hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's topic is a spin on villains. This week, I'm showcasing my top ten favorite villains. For me, I tend to favor villains that are more complex, and have some humanity that makes us readers sympathize with them just a little bit, despite all their horrible actions. Okay so I ended up only having eight...there just aren't that many complex villains out there! Or, you know, I haven't been reading the correct books for my reading taste!

Here are 8 villains that are deliciously evil.

8) The Villains in This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada
Goodreads
I'm keeping this one real vague because of spoilers. Though I guessed who the real bad guy was, it was still a wonderful twist and I loved seeing how the reveal affected all of our MCs!

TTT | Longest Books I've Ever Read!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today's topic is "Longest Books I've Ever Read!" I honestly don't know what are the longest books I've read, but I wouldn't be surprised if Winter by Marissa Meyer is on here...because that thing is 800 pages!

This is in order from shortest to longest!

10) Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess is the third and final book in Clare's Infernal Devices trilogy, and my favorite. While the first book dragged for me, this final one flew by!
9) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Another book that, while long, flew by! I think this had to do with the amazing writing and the mixed media in Illuminae. There were rarely pages with blocks of text, which makes more a quick read.

8) The Winter King by CL Wilson

The Winter King is a fantasy romance that I picked up on Alyssa's recommendation. Despite the 595 pages, I read the book in three days. The romance was sexy, and the action was so well done.
7) Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Mixed media takes up a lot of space! Gemina is the second book in the Illuminae files, and my favorite. Hanna, the MC, is probably one of my favorite female protagonists to date.

6) The Sea King by CL Wilson

The Sea King is a companion sequel to The Winter King. Even though I loved The Winter King, I was pretty disappointed with The Sea King, and it took me almost a whole week to read the book, twice as long as it took for The Winter King.
5) Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Obsidio is the third and final book in the Illuminae Files trilogy. Obsidio wasn't my favorite, but it was a pretty solid book. It's also the longest in the series, but much like Gemina and Illuminae, I didn't feel the length of this one.

4) Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Unlike Obsidio, I did feel the length of Lady Midnight. I did enjoy it, but there were times when I forgot who was who; there are so many Blackthorne children! I'm currently reading Lord of Shadows, and having a much better reading experience.

3) The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson

This is the only book on the list that I listened to. Even though the audiobook was ridiculously long, I couldn't stop listening to it. I might not have loved what happened in this final book, but my investment in this series won out.

2) City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

There are a ton of final books in this list. It seems that the further the series progresses, the longer the books become. City of Heavenly Fire is the final book in Clare's Mortal Instruments series. It's not my favorite series by Clare, but this final book is one of the better of the series.
1) Winter by Marissa Meyer

And the longest book I have ever read is...Winter! Winter is the fourth and final book in The Lunar Chronicles. While the third book in the series, Cress, is my favorite, Winter is a close second. Winter is roughly 800 pages long, but it only took me a couple of days to finish the book.

Okay, okay there were a TON of sequels from the same series on there. So for the sake of having more books on this list outside of the same three series (yikes) here are some other long books I have read.
  • Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
    • Beautiful Creatures was a book I read when I was first getting into YA. I loved the first book, but the series went downhill for me. Did I finish the series? no. Will I ever? nope!
  • Tiger's Voyage by Colleen Houck
    • Ahh, the third book in the Tiger's Curse series. The first two books were my CRACK when I was 12. When I got to the third book though, something weird happened...I didn't love it! Basically, Tiger's Voyage was the start of my critical reading.
  • The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
    • The Lost Hero was published in 2010, so most likely I read this 8 years ago. Don't ask me about the plot. All I know is that there is a mechanical dragon, Jason is the main character, and a boy named Leo (who is immortal?? idk everything is hazy). One day I want to reread this series and finish it, but I have no clue when that will actually happen!
  • Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (omg the only non-fantasy!!)
    • I read this book YEARS ago when I first got my nook. Ah, fond memories. I read this baby in one night because I needed to know if the main character actually dies in the end, redeems herself, etc.

Have you read any of these books? What are some of the longest books you've read?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

TTT | Books on My Fall TBR!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'm participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today's topic is "books on my fall TBR!" I always associate fall with school, so for me, fall has already begun! Nevertheless, here are ten books that I hope to read! Most of these are ARCs, simply because I focus on them during school!

10) The Raging Ones by Krista and Becca Ritchie

I have an ARC of this, and I haven't started it yet! I haven't read sci-fi in a while, and I'm looking forward to getting back into the genre. To be honest, I don't know much about the book, but it has gotten pretty good reviews! The 4.12 average rating on goodreads is promising.

9) Mirage by Somaiya Daud
Goodreads
I am determined to finish Mirage. I was about 60 percent of the way through before I moved into university. Mirage moves a bit slower than I'm accustomed, so I already wasn't making quick progress. when I moved in, I wanted quick reads, like romance novels, so I put this one on pause. I've really loved what I have read though, so I want to acutally finish it!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books on my Spring TBR!

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Until this 2018, The Broke and Bookish hosted the meme!

The topic of this week are books that are on our spring TBR. If you don't know, I'm a huge mood reader. Because of that, I have a lot of books that I'm interested in, but not necessarily a set list. So these 10 books are what I'll hopefully read, but I won't be surprised if I don't get to them.

Without further ado, here are 10 books that I may read this spring!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I've Decided I'm No Longer Interested in Reading

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Until this 2018, The Broke and Bookish hosted the meme, so give them so love as well! :)

The topic of this week are books we are no longer interested in. I have a ton of these books. When I first joined goodreads, I basically just added any book that mildly piqued my interest to my to-read shelf. And now, it's a huge compilation of books I actually want to read, and others I haven't thought about it quite some time.

Without further ado, here are 10 books I have lost all interest in!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Can't Believe I Read

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme now hosted by That Arsty Reader Girl.

This week's topic is "Books I Can't Believe I've Read". Now, when I first got my Nook, I just gorged myself on free ebooks, and most of them were pretty darn bad. Since then, I've picked up some cringe-y books, some being free ebooks, some not, and some from wattpad!

Without further ado, here are 10 books I cannot believe I have read!

10) The Bad Boys Saw Me Naked by The_Muffin_Dude
I mean, I think the title says it all, doesn't it? This is available on wattpad, if you truly want to see it...

9) First by M.A. Grant
To be honest, I don't remember anything about this book. BUT it was one of the first books I got approved of on Netgalley!

8) Never Dare a Dragon by Ashlyn Chase
This was also another book I got via Netgalley. I don't know why I keep requesting romances on NG and expecting to really like them? I really didn't enjoy this one, but you can read more of my thoughts here if you want. :)

7) Heartfire by Karen Rose Smith
I know that Heartfire is a free e-book romance that I read years and years ago. Like First though, I don't remember too much about it, and it honestly doesn't sound or look like anything I enjoy now.

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Loved But Can't Remember Much About

Hey everyone and welcome back (or to!) my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Until this 2018, The Broke and Bookish hosted the meme, so give them so love as well! :)

This week's topic is "Books I Loved But Can't Remember Much About". For this, I decided to look at my 2014 and 2015 favorites shelf on goodreads. Not only was I not a critical reader in 2014 (or 2015, for that matter) , it's also been three to four years since I've read these books, so I barely remember anything.

Here are some of my "favorite" books that I know next to nothing about anymore!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Meant to Read in 2017 but Didn't!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today is actually the last day The Broke and the Bookish is hosted Top Ten Tuesday. The meme will now be hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!

I first just wanted to start off this post by saying THANK YOU to the women at The Broke and the Bookish. Before I started my blog, I somehow stumbled upon their Top Ten Tuesday posts. I visited their blog every now and again, and after around a year and a half after seeing these posts, I started my own blog here. I want to take the time to thank The Broke and Bookish for introducing me to this wonderful community, and being one of the main factors in my decision to start blogging.

With that done, let's talk books!! Here are ten books I said I would read in 2017, and didn't. I decided to look at my posts from last year about my most anticipated releases or those I wanted to read for challenges, and pick the ones I'm still the most excited about.

1) Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
I have a signed hard copy of this! SIGNED. And I still haven't read it.... What am I doing?

2) Compulsion by Martina Boone
I've owned this book since it's release, when I went to a book signing and got this signed. Once again, I'm not reading my signed books! I did read a teaser of this online one day, and liked what I read, so hopefully I'll actually read it this year.

3) Infinity by Jus Accardo
I proclaim that YA sci-fi is one of my favorite genres, and yet I have owned this book for around 2 years and have yet to read it. *sigh*

4) Map of Fates by Maggie Hall
I absolutely loved The Conspiracy of Us. It's been so long since I've read the first book, but now I own the second, so I can get back to the series. However, it's been quite a while, and I'm worried that I'll have to do some rereading/skimming of the first to remember everything.

5) Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray
This is a sequel to A Thousand Pieces Above You, which I did enjoy but thought was problematic after reading this blog post (please read it!!). I'm torn on reading this series and promoting the series through reviews, so I might not put a review up on this book.

6) The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
Another Ahdieh book makes another appearance! I really enjoyed The Wrath and the Dawn (review here!).  Why haven't I read the sequel? Because I want to own the matching sequel book cover, and I haven't bought it yet (I have a hard time buying books when there's libraries). BUT I will be buying the sequel and I will be reading it!

7) We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
Nina LaCour isn't one of my favorite authors, but she has the potential to be. I loved Everything Leads to You and Hold Still, so there's really no plausible reason why I haven't read this, especially because I have an ARC copy of it...yikes!

8) Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray
So this is the on my radar the least out of all ten books, but I might give it a whirl. But the synopsis sounds amazing, and while I haven't *loved* any books by Gray, the two I have read were enjoyable for the most part.

9) Fireblood by Elly Blake
Fireblood is the sequel to Frostblood (review here), which while it wasn't original, I did enjoy. I decided to read this series for a year-long challenge, so now I actually need to read this!

10) The Body Electric by Beth Revis
Last but not least, is another signed book I got very soon after it's release at a book event! Beth Revis wrote the Across the Universe trilogy, which I loved at the time of reading them. I have started this book several times (and the first 20 pages are great), but then I always get super busy and put it down. One of these days I will read more than the first 20 pages!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

TTT: Gems Published 7 or More Years Ago!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be participating in Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted by The Broke and Bookish. I don't do these memes on a weekly basis, but I loved the topic of this week! Today's topic is: "Throwback Freebie: Ten Books I Loved During The First Year I Started My Blog, Favorite Books Published 5 or 10 or 15 Years Ago, Ten Older Books I Forgot How Much I Loved, etc. etc. Tweak however you want!"

So with this throwback freebie, I decided to highlight some books that have been out for 7 years or more. 7 years ago, I was 11 years old, and not just starting to get into reading again. Whether I read them in sixth grade or just last week, here are some gems you might now know about!

Here are my favorite books that are seven years or older! All links are to goodreads. :)

10) Marmalade Boy by Wataru Yoshizumi
I will never stop talking about this manga series. I just absolutely love it, and whenever I need a good ol' pick me up, I read this. The manga was published in volumes in 2003, which was 14 years ago! Even though it's been a while since they've been published, I think that the series is till timely.

9) Dr. Franklin's Island by Ann Halam
I'm going to say this right off the bat: this book is really f*cking weird. And well, I love it. I remember reading htis in fifth or sixth grade. I read it in 2014 to see what I thought about it again, and I really liked it! I don't LOVE it by any means, but I recommend it!

8) When it Happens by Susane Colasanti
When It Happens was published in 2006, and though you can kind of tell, it's not too bothersome. When It Happens was one of the first YA books I read, and at the time, I really loved it. I have since read it again two times, and I still stand by my opinion. To me, this is a classic YA contemporary.
