10 Perfect Summer Reads!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I'm Genni, and today I'll be sharing ten books that I think are perfect for summer. For all my northern hemisphere readers, these books will be perfect whether you are lounging by the pool or are heading in for that miraculous air conditioning. For my southern hemisphere readers, I hope you enjoy these come December!

Without further ado, here are 10 books that I think are perfect for the summer!

Now, I don't know about you but when I think summer reads I immediately think: contemporary. Summer romance, summer jobs, getting ready for college, everything! BUT I do know that some of you don't like contemporary, so I'll make sure that there are some books outside of that genre.

Here are 7 contemporary reads!

10) Dating You/Hating You and Roomies by Christina Lauren
I had to have a two in one here! I recently read both of these books by Christina Lauren and thought they were the perfect summer reads. They are both romance novels, but have that fun spirit I associate with new adult reads. The chemistry is off the charts, and the plots suck me in!

9) Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
Review

In Bennett's newest release we have:
  • best friends to lovers to exes to lovers romance!
  • camping
  • drama
  • bears
  • amazing look into parent/child relationships
What more could you ask for this summer?

8) Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
 Review

Beauty Queens is one of the funniest books I've read. It's a satire on all the tropes you've ever read in YA, and the audiobook is a perfect match. If you want some laughs this summer, this is a great book for you!

7) Did I Mention I Love You? by Estelle Maskame

Okay, this is book is: cheesy, tropey, and chock-full of drama. If you want a contemporary that goes by very quickly, this is the one for you. Also, this book is about Eden falling in love with her step-brother during the summer. To me, this book screams summer.

6) Smut by Karine Halle
Review
This is another adult romance. Like Roomies, it has a really great energy to it. While the title isn't the best - the synopsis even has a not to ensure readers that Smut by Karina Halle, is in fact not smut - it is a worthy read. Blake and Amanda are forced to write together for a final project, and they end up writing smut under a pen name. Fun antics ensue from there!

5) Royally Lost by Angie Stanton

I read this a couple summers ago, and it's actually my go-to! I've actually reread it a couple times, simply because it's a quintessential read. It's not the best book I've ever read, but it's so fun! During the summer, Becca goes on a European road trip with her family and has a whirlwind romance with a mysterious boy who is *gasp!* a prince!

4) The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
 Review

I knew I wanted to add a Morgan Matson book on this list, but I didn't know which one to add. Since You've Been Gone, Save the Date, Amy & Roger's Epic Detour?? I eventually decided on The Unexpected Everything. There's dogs, friendships drama, and an adorable love interest.

Now, here come the non-contemporary reads!

3) Nyxia by Scott Reintgen

Nyxia is the first in a science fiction fantasy by Reintgen. It's high octane, action-packed, and full of wonderfully complex protagonists. While Nyxia is full of tropes, it's really fun to see how they play out in Reintgen's debut!

2) Deep Blue by Jennifer Donnelly

Deep Blue is the first in a series by Donnelly that centers around mermaid protagonists. First off, what doesn't scream summer like mermaids? Also, there's a great balance between action, romance, poltical intrigue, and friendship in the series. In my opnion, that makes Deep Blue perfect for the summer!

1) Hunger by Roxane Gay

I wanted to add a non fiction book into this list, and I think Hunger is perfect. Hunger is a memoir of Roxane Gay's relationship with her body, and it is inspiring, thoughtful, and raw. I had to read this for a class, and I'm looking forward to one day rereading this when I have some free time (like summer)!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What are some of your summer recommendations?

Thank you so much for stopping by, and I'll see you soon with another post!

Happy Reading!

  4. Great summer picks, Genni! I actually just ordered a physical copy of Roomies this morning and can’t wait to receive it and start reading. And Starry Eyes is anaother one that will definitely be happening sooner rather than later.
