Top Ten Tuesday: Books In Space

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I am participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Every week we are given a prompt. This week's prompt was Top Ten Books with X Setting, in which we choose a setting of our choice! I love science fiction, so I decided to spotlight ten nine books set in space! I only chose nine for this week because I didn't want to highlight any YA sci fi that I didn't necessarily enjoy.

Here they are, in no particular order:

9.) Cress/Winter/Fairest by Marissa Meyer
How could I not mention the Lunar Chronicles series? The first two books are not set in space, but the final three are. I loved the space setting and I thought it added more depth to the book. The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series out there and the setting added to my enjoyment.

8.) The Taking Trilogy by Melissa West
The Taking Trilogy is one of the most underrated series I have read! It should definitely get more attention. The trilogy features the human race as it coexists with an alien species. Throughout the three books, we see the main character travel between worlds and space.

7.) The Future Collection by Beth Revis
Now this by far the creepiest work on this list, but one of the most intriguing as well. The Future Collection is a short story collection written by YA sci fi author Beth Revis. There were a couple stories that went too far for me, but most really drew me in. Every short story is very different from the other, but all are science fiction.

6.) The 100 by Kass Morgan
Who can resist a series about a group of teenage delinquents sent to the Earth to see if it is livable after living in space for centuries? What I loved most about the opening novel of the trilogy was how fun it was! The flashbacks and different POVs in space were my favorite parts of the book by far.

5.) Starbound Trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
The starbound trilogy is what really introduced me to YA sci-fi! These Broken Stars, the first book in the trilogy, drew me in and I couldn't put down the rest of the series. If you are new to reading young adult science fiction, I would recommend this trilogy!

4.) Alienated Trilogy by Melissa Landers
The Alientated series just recently concluded earlier this month with United, the final book. The series doesn't necessarily take place in space, but the characters do move in between planets. The two main characters have amazing chemistry together, and watching their relationship expand as they learn more about each others species is a blast.

3.) Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
When I read Ender's Game three years ago, I was obsessed. While I now look back and see some flaws with the book, I still wholeheartedly recommend it! Ender's Game has to be one of the most famous science fiction books out there, and I'm glad I read it!

2.) Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Across the Universe and the trilogy as a whole will have a special place in my sci-fi loving heart. I read it around the same time I read These Broken Stars, and I had such a great reading experience. Beth Revis brilliantly wrote the series, and has cemented herself as one of my favorite young adult science fiction authors out there with this trilogy.

1.) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Illuminae is probably my favorite young adult science fiction book on this list, tied of course with The Lunar Chronicles. What puts this book on another level was how Illuminae is both a science fiction and thriller. I loved the combination, and it was pulled off effortlessly by Kaufman and Kristoff.

  5. The 100! Love the show but haven't read the books, but I'm curious. Love the cover too. The cover of gravity is awesome too. And I want to read across the Universe as I like books set on generation ships and I understand that's part of that story.

    1. The TV show is one of my favorites! My curiosity was the final push to read the series. The cover of Gravity was actually what made me initially pick up the series! The majority of the Across the Universe trilogy takes place on a generation ship! It was really fun setting. :D

  8. Great choice of topic! I haven't read any of these, but I really want to read some of them, so I'm happy to see they're on your list since that means they're probably good! I already have Gravity by Melissa West and fully intended to read it this year as it sounds really interesting from the blurb, so maybe I will get to it soon. I also want to try the Alienated trilogy (I think my library has the ebooks). And I've heard some good things about Across the Universe that has me kind of interested. I'm not into short story collections, but your thoughts on The Future Collection do have me intrigued. I'm really curious to know what it was that went too far for you in those stories lol.

    1. Thank you Kristen! Both Gravity and Alienated are really fast paced reads, so I'm sure you'll be able to speed through them. There were only two stories that made me a bit uncomfortable, and that was because of the gore. It was too graphic for me and just gave me the heebie-jeebies. XD
